The Forms of Entertainment Enjoyed By the People of Pompeii
The people of Pompeii enjoyed a wide range of various entertainments that was housed at the different locations around town. They enjoyed Gladiatorial games in the Amphitheatre; plays and comedy were found in the theatres; the Palaestra was an exercise ground for men; people enjoyed various public bath facilities; taverns and bars hosted drinking and gambling and similar to modern days people entertained in their own houses.
Roman cities are famous for their Gladiatorial games and Pompeii was no different. In Pompeii the games were the most popular forms of entertainment and were held in the amphitheatre. The largest amphitheatre held between 13,000 and 20,000 people. As well as the Gladiator games other blood games including boxing, wild beast shows and other variations of Gladiator combats were enjoyed.
