Discussing the Views of Andre Brink With Regards to Weep Not Child by Ngugi

"There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before." A quote that contradicts the thoughts of Brink. Andre Brink, through the quote in the title, is stating that a writer's work is only worthwhile if it acts as a conscience in the world. One explanation of the statement is that the work must be a moral or ethical judgment, in order to be worthwhile. Weep not Child is certainly a moral judgment of the situation in Kenya during the 1950s. The novel tells of not only the colonization by the whites, but also the upset caused by the progression of some of the black African people. Ngugi's work is a conscience in the world.
