Summary: Self Image - Real beauty and confidence must come from inside of ourselves, and we can't let the media try to tell us what beauty or perfection looks like. If we do, then there will be even more of an increase in eating disorders, cosmetic surgeries, and moneymakers on human emotions through the sale of quick-weight loss and beauty enhancing products.
The Price Many Pay for Perfection

With all the perfect bodies that are seen on T.V., on billboards, and magazines in our society, it is hard for anyone to not be affected by them. There is an extraordinary want and need for women to be perfect on the outside. Also, too much importance is placed on women to give in to the image of being beautiful. In the poem "Barbie Doll," written by Marge Piercy, you see the evidence of her use of irony, her attitude on the subjects of inner and outer beauty, and her attitude on how words can affect a woman's self confidence. In "Never Just Pictures," written by Susan Bordo, it discusses the affect advertisement and the media has on today's society, especially on young girls. Many companies use advertisements that specifically target young people who can be manipulated into buying the products...
