Shakespeare Today
If William Shakespeare had lived during the 21st century, the Luhrmann film version of Romeo and Juliet would be what Shakespeare would have had in mind for the production of his play. The Luhrmann version is a modern day Romeo and Juliet set on "Verona Beach" in Miami, Florida. With guns, cars, and skyscrapers it is a very interesting adaptation of the play Romeo and Juliet written about 400 years ago. Though the Luhrmann version has an unexpected ending, it is still a good movie. The 1996 Baz Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet captures the truest sense of the play based on modernization, casting and the ability for a wide range of viewers to understand Shakespeare's writing.
