Iceman
Summary: What have archaeologists and scientists discovered from the artefacts and ecofacts about Iceman? In what areas is their knowledge only theory rather than fact?
Working together, scientists and archaeologists have gained much insight into the life of Iceman. His glacial grave has yielded pieces of his clothing, weaponry and other equipment, every day objects, which tell us a lot about his life. By thoroughly examining the artefacts and ecofacts found, experts have come up with a number of conclusions.
Iceman's age is approximately 5 300 years old, which makes him by far the most ancient human being found virtually intact. This was established using carbon-14 dating, fluorine testing and radiology. He was found on the Austro-Italian border, high in the Alps, and came from the Stone Age period.
Iceman's clothing consisted of a fur cap, a grass coat, fur leggings, and a loincloth made of thin and soft leather. He also wore leather shoes, stuffed with grass for warmth. Scientists have been stunned by the ingenuity of his clothing for that time in history...
