Throughout the history of the United States, there had been many times when people develop movements or even programs in response to the demands for political, social or economic reform. Two examples that demonstrate these reforms are the women's movement, which thrived from 1848 to 1920, and The New Deal, which lasted from 1933 to 1945.
Prior to the 1940's women had no rights at all. In fact, the job of a woman was to stay home to please her husband and raise children. A woman in the workforce was not even an option. By the 1930's young women recognized that they faced discrimination from all places in society. By 1948 the woman's rights movement was officially beginning. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucreita Mott held the Seneca Falls Convention in 1948. The group's first goal was to end legal inequalities faced by married women.
