Philosophers as Rulers
Summary: Explains how philosophers would make better rulers than simple people.
The following quote is from the Republic, written by the Greek philosopher Plato: "There will be no end to the troubles of states, or ...of humanity itself, till philosophers become kings in this world, or those we now call kings and rulers really and truly become philosophers." I both agree and disagree with this quote.
The reason I agree is because I would see that philosophers who are rulers would probably make a good, practical form of leadership, probably better than the kinds we have today. Also it would be because the philosopher would have time to think about how people would like to see their government run.
However, the reason I disagree is because not all philosophers are born rulers, and not all rulers are born philosophers. It would be quite possible that if a country elected a philosopher as a leader, or a person with enough...
