Respiratpry Syncitial Virus

RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus. This virus is a major cause of respiratory illness in children of all ages and is so common that most children have had RSV by the time they reach 2 years of age. Many times parents don't even know their child has had RSV, they think it was just a bad cold. This virus is present for about 6 months of the year from fall through spring. From September through April we are all exposed to the RSV virus. The worst time for getting RSV is November to February, although this varies by area. By age two, almost 100% of children have been infected. With most children, exposure to RSV leads to nothing more than a cold. Other children, especially preemies, infants born with chronic lung disease, infants born immunocompromised, and infants with certain forms of heart disease are at increased risk for severe RSV...
