Summary: Discusses the history of Daoism
Daoism can be translated to mean "the way." Some believe the founder of the religion is Lao-Zi. Lao-Zi also wrote the Dao De Jing, which contains many, their beliefs. Daoism, like many other religions, have governing, certain beliefs, and a history.

Lao-Zi, the founder of Daoism, was a contemporary of Confucius. He was looking for a way to avoid conflicts that would disrupt society during his lifetime. Daoism started as a combination of psychology and philosophy. However, it evolved into a religion in 440 BC (Taoism 2002). After the Ch'ing Dynasty in 1911, the state no longer supported Daoism. Much of the remaining heritage was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution in China from 1966-1976 (Taoism 2002).

Many of Daoist's beliefs come from the Dao De Jing, written by Lao-Zi. Some of them are the Yin and Yang, the three jewels, and Wu Wei. Yin and Yang (see appendix A) are the negative...
