Oldsmobile could claim the first "Muscle car" with its Rocket 88 of 1949. But its name didn't return until 1964. That's when its police apprehender pursuit package came into play. The 4-4-2package was optional in any F-85 or cutlass except the wagon. In its first season 4-4-2 stood for four-barrel carb, four-speed manual transmission, and dual exhaust. The $136 option included a 330 CI V8, beefed up suspension with rear stabilizer, and Redline tires. After a year of the 330 CI V8, Oldsmobile's 4-4-2coupe moved up to a 400 CI V8. So now the 4-4-2 meant 400 cid, four barrel, and dual exhaust. The car did 0 to 60 in 7.8 sec and the quarter mile in 15.5 sec at 84 mph.
