Dante Alighieri was one of the greatest authors of the Middle Ages in Europe. He has written great works like The Divine Comedy and De Vulgari Eloquentia. Most facts of his life are found from research of his writings. He is said to be a man of medium height, swarthy complexion, large and grave eyes, an aquiline nose, protruding lower lip, and a prominent jaw. He was a very educated man who studied at many universities including the university of Bologna. Dante's works of literature are still being read today.
Dante was born in May of 1265 in Florence, Italy. His family belonged to the lesser nobility. However, his great grandfather was knighted by Emperor Conrad III.
