Summary: The Evolution of Beach Volleyball.
The sport of volleyball was originally established by William G. Morgan, a YMCA instructor in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Morgan's goal was to create a sport for businessmen and women who weren't "strong enough" to play basketball that blended the elements of basketball, tennis, baseball, and handball. This sport was played indoors with any number of people playing.
William Morgan's directions for playing volleyball were very different from the way volleyball players play the sport today. The original rules of volleyball stated that the game would consist of nine innings, similar to baseball. Each inning would consist of two services on each side of the court. The serving team's players would take turns serving, and would continue serving until the serving team could not return the ball. The inning rule was taken away within a few years and replaced with a rule stating that innings would not exist at all...
