Flight has mystified man since the dawn of time. The dream to conquer the skies has tested the physical abilities and raw intellect of humans to unsurpassed levels. Wilbur Wright said that, "The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who...looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space...on the infinite highway of the air." Flight was first achieved by lighter-than-air aircraft as early as 1783, when French aviator Francois Pilatre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes flew over Paris in the first human flight in a hot air balloon (Flight100.org). However, powered flight did not take off until the dawn of the 20th century. The Wright brothers Wilbur and Orville are thought to be the two supreme originators behind powered flight.
