Louis Riel - The Hero of all Time
Summary: Analysis on the action of Louis Riel and his two rebellions.
As the new dominion expanded after the confederation, it met resistance and conflicted with the Metis in the prairies. In the two Metis rebellions, Rebellion of 1869 and Rebellion of 1873, there was an important figure, Louis Riel. "Our land: Building the West" describes him, "Riel was a serious, thoughtful person, dedicated to helping his people. While he opposed the actions of the Canadian government, he strongly resisted the idea that the Red River area should become part of the United States." Louis Riel was a strong-willed man who stood and defended the rights of his people. He made a significant remark in the complicated conflicts between Metis of the prairies and Orangemen of the east. He was, indeed, the hero of all time.
