Genetic Engineering
INTRODUCTION
Description Of The Technology
Genetic Engineering is the deliberate and direct alteration of an organism. The alteration can be carried from one generation to another through the DNA (protein which carries genetic information) after it has been introduced to the organism. The parts of the DNA, which have been associated with specific features and functions of the organism are called genes. Because genetic traits are passed on through DNA, it is the genes within DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), which must be changed in order for the desired alteration in the species of organism to occur. The change in genetic information is passed on to the next generation through reproduction of the organism.
A genetic alteration, genes are taken from one species and inserted into another. This technology enables scientists to modify genes taken from bacteria, viruses, insects, plants, animals and even humans...
