Summary: Reducing Dependence on Foreign Oil
Petroleum is the world's most important energy source and supplies much of the world's energy needs. Significant amounts of petroleum are found in only a few regions of the world. However, the Middle East's oil has brought the most attention. The Persian Gulf region in the Middle East is the world's most important oil-producing region. If I were a policymaker of the U.S I would reduce dependence on foreign oil by making fuel from farm wastes, I would make Congress help with the transportation system, and scientists would find replacements for oil.
One way to reduce use of foreign oil is to make fuel from farm wastes. I would start using agricultural wastes such as corn stalks, sugar cane wastes and rice hulls. I would use Ethanol to make oil from crop or woody parts of plants. Ethanol from corn supplies about 1 percent of motor fuel. It...
