To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing today to address the issue of my sentencing. I know that ultimately this decision is in the hand of the court. I also understand the usual punishment for my crime is a fine, probation, as well as community service. However, I feel that an extensive probation would be a waste of the state's limited resources, would not effectively help me rehabilitate and is unnecessary. Instead I feel however that more community service in exchange for probation would not only be beneficial to the community, but would help the state and myself as well. If I may, I would at this time like to give the court a brief background of myself that I think will help demonstrate the value of community service over probation in my case.
