Gun control is a very important issue that is being discussed more and more by congress as the years go by. This essay I will be talking about why I feel that stricter gun control laws would be good and bad. I will also state my opinion and say why this is my opinion.

One of the many reasons for gun control is it would reduce gun related crimes. By having more gun control, it would be harder for criminals to get and have a firearm in their possession. This would also reduce the gun homicides as well as gun suicides.

Another reason gun control would be good is to prevent gun related accidents. When I say accidents I mean like a child find his fathers hand gun not knowing that pulling the trigger would kill him/her. There were about 600 deaths due to unintentional Injuries in 2002. Stricter gun control laws would help prevent more incidents such as this.

Now to the side I agree with, gun control is fine how it is. First I am going to get one this strait, it isn't true the more guns there are, the more homicides and suicides there are. If you look at the chart I attached, the homicides and suicides actually decreased the more guns that were bought (Source: Data points from Gary Kleck, Targeting Guns: Firearms and Their Control, Walter de Gruyter, Inc., New York 1997, and FBI Uniform Crime Reports.)

Another good reason is the second amendment gives the right to Americans to bear arms. If we come under attack from some ignorant country who thinks that they can take the US, and the army isn't there, what will protect the people if we cannot use bear firearms"
