Pledge vs. Public Schools
According to "Webster's new World Dictionary" an oath means; a ritualistic declaration, typically based on an appeal to God or to some revered person or object, that one will speak the truth, and keep a promise, remain faithful (4)." The pledge of allegiance is an oath to America and God. It is an oath of loyalty to America, it's national emblem and what it symbolizes. The pledge originated with one of the editors in the "Youth's Companion" which back then became a magazine for children. By proclamation of President Benjamin Harrison, the Pledge was first used, and has been rehearsed in many public schools since October 12, 1982.
