To Kill a Mockingbird vs. Remember the Titans

Summary: Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and Jerry Bruckheimer's Remember the Titans: Opinion comparing Coach Boone and Atticus, why people originally thought they were not brave.
Bravery can be described as courage, heroism, gallantry, or having guts!  In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, and in the movie Remember the Titans, many individual see Atticus and Coach Boone as lacking bravery.  Bravery is not something that can be judged on first thoughts or assumptions.  Someone's courage is defined by what they do during the hard times.  In both works there are many hard times; it is how these characters respond that shows true bravery.

One way both men show bravery is by going against what is accepted in their society.  "I don't scratch my head unless it itches and I don't dance unless I hear some music. I will not be intimidated that's just the way it is."  This is the attitude Coach Boone's takes towards people trying to scare him.  He will not be afraid of people who discriminate against him.  I feel that this shows true bravery.  Atticus does the same thing by going against the thinking of the times.   He is doing something that no one else in the society would dare to do.  Putting himself in that situation changed his life.  He knew what was right though and took a stand.  Standing up for what you believe in is very important to both men.

Another way both men show bravery is by not giving up.  Coach Boone worked with his team, even after he knew what would happen if he lost a game.  He took on a challenged and worked to change the team.  This experience changed him as well as the community.  Atticus fought for Tom even after he was convicted.  It was apparent why Tom was convicted and Atticus was going to fight it.  In both cases the men were very persistent.

Through persistence, and doing what they knew is right, but men showed bravery.  In different ways they stood up for what they believed in.  One threw football, and the other through law.  Atticus and Coach Boone may have been thought to be cowards by some at the beginning, but these people were shown the truth.  These men showed that they are brave even though some of the people in their society may not think so.  Bravery can be described as courage, heroism, gallantry, or having guts.  I think these words all describe these two men perfectly.
