Summary: American Isolationism
The policy of isolationism was first established when the Monroe Doctrine was formulated. The doctrine stated that America would not get involved in European affairs, and that Europe would not get involved in American affairs. However, the policy of isolationism was only in effect until 1917. When World War One broke out the USA was initially determined to stay neutral, but the economy in America depended largely on foreign trade and as the USA wanted to remain neutral, the policy prevented her from aiding other countries with supplies. America did enter the war some time later by assuming the role of supplying weapons and food to the Allies. So came about the neglect of isolationism. As a result of America's entering the war, a conflict arose between America and Germany.
