Andrew Marvell in "The Definition of Love"
Summary: This is an analytical essay on "The Definition of Love" by Andrew Marvell.
"The Definition of Love" is said to be one of the more difficult poems to follow as opposed to Marvell's previous love poems. The emotion of "love" is not expressed through traditional objects such as fire or flowers...but through geometrical and astronomical terms. A platonic and neoplatonic belief that mathematics was the to essential nature of the universe was born during the middle ages. One historian of this time period said," Astronomy is the geometry of the heavens."
