Tourism in Less Economically Developed Countries
Summary: The essay deals with the topic of tourism in LEDCs, dealing with advantages and disadvantages of it.
Although tourism is mainly between MEDCs (More Economically Developed Countries), tourists have started to travel more and more towards LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries), because of the scenery, the climate and the attraction a different culture can represent. Although this remains a small-scale development, it is resembling more and more the mass tourism that has developed in MEDCs. Even though this has an obvious immediate advantage, of developing the economy in the region touched by tourism, it can be argued that the long-term disadvantages have a greater weight.
It is true that encouraging tourism has positive aspects in LEDCs, because they create employment for the locals, often in regions that don't have other economic resources to rely on.
