Summary: Is the death penalty acceptable?
Putting people to death as a punishment for the most heinous of crimes is an ancient practice, dating as far back as1760 B.C.1 In the latter half of the twentieth century it has become a highly debated topic in Canada as well as the United States. Capital punishment has become an extremely controversial issue not only because of the legal questions that is raises, but also the moral ones. Can we morally justify taking away the life of another human being? Yes. Capital punishment is morally just. It is a penalty that fits the crime. It does not unnecessarily risk the lives of innocent people. It is shown to be an acceptable punishment in the Bible. Despite all of the criticism that capital punishment faces, losing ones own life is the most appropriate punishment for taking the life of another human.
