A husband, father, farmer and active member of the farming community, Caleb Gare's most distinguished position is his detestable stance of a tyrant. The deeper exploration of his characteristics and actions reveal even more execrable plights, and makes the human connection to these characteristics hard to believe. The reader is constantly reminded of Caleb's domineering and ruthless ways, and conceives the reflection others, including Caleb, make on his tyranny.
