Summary: Gathering of Days
The things I liked most about A Gathering of Days was the theme, conflict, and characters. The story took place on a small farm in New Hampshire. The surroundings and the way of life was very simple. The theme was, "learn to accept the good times with the bad." The main character, Catherine, had many significant changes taking place in her life " (the year of the journal). Her father married another woman and had a little kid ,so she got a new brother. Her best friend died and she helped a runaway slave survive the harsh winter. She learned to accept whatever changes life threw in her way. Conflicts kept the book interesting. Catherine had lots of internal conflicts with all the changes going on in her life.
