Amelia Earhart
Amelia was born on July 24, 1897. Her parents were Amy and Edwin Earhart. Amelia's mother was a fourth child in her family. David Earhart, Edwin's father, was a farmer, teacher, and Evangelical Lutheran missionary. The Earharts had another daughter, Muriel. Amelia and Muriel would race along paths leading down to the river, searching for arrowheads, playing pioneers and Indians. One of Amelia's early projects was a makeshift roller coaster. The girls liked to play baseball, fishing, and roaming the woods and field. Amy Earhart allowed her daughters to wear bloomers, loose-fitting trousers that were just beginning to come into vogue. Amelia and Muriel raced around unhampered while the other local girls walked steadily in their traditional long dresses. They were entirely happy tomboys. To expand their horizons, the Earharts let the girls make some of their own decisions like staying up late to watch...
