My Experience Immigrating to American from Indonesia

Summary: Personal essay on experience immigrating to America from Indonesia.
Many teenagers carry their personal possessions in their pockets or backpacks. I cannot forget my past that I always carry in my mind.  Many of my friends have not experienced any wars or dangerous situations other than the tragedy of September 11.  In early 1997, Indonesia had huge confrontations between the citizens, the students, and the government.  With the frightening feeling, I could imagine that the target of homicide was either my neighbors or myself.  The problem was that the Muslim students wanted to get rid of the corruption and nepotism that the president and all of the Chinese-Indonesians had supported for decades.  They wanted to make everyone equal, which meant they wanted everyone to be a Native Indonesian and Muslim.  Although I was born in Indonesia, my bloodline was still Chinese.  

As I still carry the memory of my dreadful past now...
