The other day I was riding in my friend's fathers' car. The car was filled with clouds of cigarette smoke and I found it very difficult to breathe. As I opened the window to get a breath of fresh air, I caught sight of a large billboard advertising cigarettes. At that moment I started thinking about the impact of these advertisements on people. It seems to me that there is a big contradiction in advertising a product which has been proved to cause death.
One way for cigarette companies to let people know about their product is by advertising. The ads illustrate all of the joys of smoking, but never tell you how dangerous and deadly it really is. Advertising cigarettes on television was banned in 1971. (*1) That is the only thing cigarette advertising has been banned from.
