Summary: The Bet
Revolves around the idea of the many conflicts in the short narrative.
Conflict is literature enhances the story by allowing to reader to enter the story. The use of conflict makes the reader feel as if they relate to the story. Conflict adds excitement and suspense to a story. One of the best authors to use conflict in his stories is Anton Chekhov. Chekhov's use of conflict in "The Bet" is distinctive because the whole story revolves around the idea of conflict. The banker and the lawyer are in quarrel with each other because of a bet they made regarding capital punishment. The incongruity they go through gives a clear impression of each character. Through the use of internal, external and environmental conflicts the author is able to portray the true feelings of the characters.
