The inter-war Labour governments were as successful as circumstances permitted
As when looking at any government the circumstances at the time are key factors in determining how successful they are. External factors imposing in on a government put it under pressure and create tensions as we can currently see from the problems facing the government over the war in Iraq.
When looking at the Labour governments at this time we must also remember that they were a relatively new political party having only formed in 1900 it took them only 24years to come into government. To establish themselves as a successful government would obviously not come straight away as they had no ministerial experience.
