In the movie Night John, educating takes a big role.  There are some teachers and some learners who play roles in the movie.  Sarney and Jeff Waller both learn and Night John and Master Waller teach them. Even though education is dangerous for the slaves these four characters all take a part.

    Teaching is dangerous to black slaves. They aren't supposed to be educated let alone teach another slave.  Night John was one of the teachers of education in the movie. He came back after escaping and he risk his life just to teach slaves how to read and write.  Night John also taught Sarney how to read and write.  Also, after standing up for Sarney, taking the blame, and getting his finger chopped off he still tried to teach the slaves before he was sold.
