Social Classes
Throughout The Good Earth Wang Lung and his fellow peasants face famine, death, financial struggles and problems between peasants, and family. A great drought arises, causing famine and farm exhaustion. Many peasants act bitter towards Wang Lung after Wang Lung refuses to give them land and food. One in particular, Wang's uncle, spawns much anger from Wang. And finally, many of the peasants are poor during the drought, and are unable to buy food or pay taxes. The peasants also cope with embarrassment and inferiority while confronting nobles. In The Good Earth, peasants are depicted as very diligent and earth caring people, and are looked at in a positive light.
