Notes on Matter
MATTER- anything that takes up space and has mass.
-There are 4 states of matter- solids, liquids, gases, and plasma.
State of Matter- depends on molecular motion.
-At higher temperature molecules move easier.
SOLIDS- has definite shape and volume and the particles are close together.
Crystals- in solids the particles are arranged in geometric pattern. Ex: salt crystals, snowflakes.
Amorphous Solids- appears to be solids but is not made of crystals; can be though of a very thick liquids. Ex: wax, butter, glass, and plastic.
Kinetic theory of matter- tiny particles in constant motion makes up all matter. At high temperature they move faster.
LIQUIDS- flows and takes the shape of it container. Particles are close together and can't be compressed. Liquids have definite volume.
Fluids- particles can flow past each other. Ex. any liquid or gas.
GASES- particles that are not close together. It can easily...
