The Wizard of Oz brings to life the classic story of Dorothy who travels to the Land of Oz and follows the "yellow-brick road" in the hope of finding a way home, back to Kansas. This movie depicts Dorothy's physical journey, beginning in Kansas, to the Land of Oz. Several techniques, like characterisation and symbolism are used to depict the physical journey, and its progress. However, the physical journey is not the only journey that the movie focuses on. Along the way, Dorothy and her companions, the Scarecrow, the Tin-man and the Cowardly Lion, grow and develop emotionally and spiritually as well.
