In the first 3 days of September 1939 over 3 million Britons were transported from the cities to the countryside where they were to be protected from the expected mass bombing of the cities. This evacuation of the major cities was expected to save thousands of lives, mainly children which it achieved to an extent. Its aim was to stop all those casualties in the younger generation for many reasons, the main one being the prevention of as many casualties as possible and this started the evacuation. The evacuation also achieved some unforeseen by-products but whether the evacuation was a great success or not is questionable. To gather sufficient information to judge whether the evacuation was a success we must look at the evidence from the time. By looking at sources A to F, we can gain a relevant insight into the evacuation.
