Ferdinand Magellan also known as Fernando D Magalhaes was a Portugese sailor. He wanted to reach Southeast Asia where many spices grew. Sailing Eastward he tried to reach his destination. His own king wouldn't finance his voyage so he got help from a young king called Charles of Spain.
Fernando Magellan was born in 1480 near springtime. The first circumnavigation was led by him. His family was of lower class nobelty and he was educated in the Portugese court. Like Colombus he believed he could get to the spice islands by sailing west. Like many explores before him he believed The world is smaller then it is known to be. With money from king Charles he purchased 5 ships named the Trinidad, San Antoin, Conception, Victoria, and the Santiago. In September 1519 he set sail with about 270 men and his5 ships.
