During the 1990s two poems emerged equally attempting to shine light on factors that each author incorporates with love. Joseph Brodsky, a writer from Russia, uses "Love Song" as a vessel to convey his adoration for his female subject. Slightly after "Love Song" was written, Nikki Giovanni, a poet born in Tennessee, embarked on a poem she titles "Love in Place." While the authors were products of entirely dissimilar backgrounds, the two pieces seem to parallel each other in various ways.
