Summary: Discusses how the character of Henry II is portrayed in the movie "Becket."
In the movie Becket, Henry II was portrayed as a very demanding and devious king. Throughout the movie you learn of how Henry's personality traits are exactly the opposite of what you would expect a king's personality to be.
When you first learn of how Henry II appointed the power of Chancellor to his good friend Becket, you start to believe he is a good hearted person. But later on in the movie you begin to see the true reasons for his loyalty to his friend. Another example is again when Henry II appointed Becket as Archbishop, head of the Catholic Church, in hope to gain the upper hand in the church. But because Henry's friend Becket is independent he often took the pope's side causing Henry not to gain his control as he would have liked to.
