The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1960's. In this book, there are two gangs that are very different and do not like each other. The Socials are a gang of rich boys that live on the West Side. They drive expensive cars and have everything they want. The Socs wear madras and nice clothes. Their hair is always clean and short. The Socs do not like the other gang: The Greasers. The Greasers are poor boys from the East Side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Greasers wear blue jeans and t-shirts. They put hair-oil in their hair and don't bathe a lot. The Greasers have long hair and they hate the Socs. The characters in this book face many problems.
