The Atomic Bomb-Hiroshima

On August 6, 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Killing about 90,000 people, the bomb was the deadliest that the world had seen. The main reason for dropping the bomb was to end World War 2. The command to use the bomb was given by President Truman in order break way to Japanese surrender. If the bomb hadn't been used, the military invasion of Japan would cost an estimated 1 million lives, and take up to 1 year. The understanding of how to construct this deadly bomb dates back to the early 1940's in Chicago.
In 1942 Enrico Fermi constructed the first successful Nuclear Reactor under the squash courts of the University of Chicago. This major breakthrough in atomic science was due to the creation of The Manhattan Project.
