Summary: Essay discusses if Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge committed genocide.

Pol Pot was born on May 19,1928. He was the leader of the Khmer Rouge, which was a Cambodian Communist army. They emerged as a serious rebel group in the late 1960's. This group proved to be a major force in Cambodia and controlled the Cambodian government for over three years.

After taking control of Cambodia Pol Pot completely demolished the country and took almost every right away from every citizen. Foreign languages were not allowed to be spoken and all adjacent countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand were attacked. Rice and endangered wildlife were exported to China in exchange for weapons. Cambodia's Buddhist religion was completely destroyed. Monks were striped of their frock and temples and artifacts were destroyed. Even people who were seen praying were often killed. Massive evacuations were held and cities were raided. Cambodians were overworked on farms resulting in harsh diseases and illnesses...
