Hamlet's Madness Reveals a Darker Side
Summary: This is an essay about how Hamlet's madness reveals a darker side to his character.
In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare one could state, "Hamlet's madness reveals the darker side of his character." I believe that Hamlet is portrayed as a noble, humble gentleman, but he, as with most other young people, has a darker side to his personality. This side within Hamlet consists of many different aspects; he can be a fairly self-centred and insensitive person. Hamlet is also very unforgiving at times; he seems to hold a grudge more than we would think at the beginning, when we believed him to be quite merciful. In my opinion, one of the shadiest characteristics that I believe contributed to his darker side was that he was quite sadistic in seeking revenge for his father's death. In the end I believed the darker side of Hamlet was the side of him that had been driven mad from his father's death, his mother marrying...
