The krebs cycle occurs in the matrix inside the mitochondria. The electron transport chain occurs in the cristae membrane in the mitochondria. B. From Acetyl CoA, the Acetyl group reacts with Oxaloacetic acid to for citric acid. the citric acid formed is a six carbon compound. Through the course of the cycle, three NADH molecules, one FADH molecule and one ATP molecule are formed and two carbon dioxide molecules are oxidized and released as waste. The number of carbons is thus reduced from six to four. This regenerates the original molecule of Oxaloacetic acid which enables the cycle to continue.
