Discursive Essay: Mixed or Single-Sex Schools?

Should a single-sex school admit boys? This is a question which has been debated for years - single sex or mixed schools, which are better for your child? Until 1950 most secondary schools were single sex following on from the idea of sending boys to school while girls learned to be a housewife at home. After the Second World War there was a movement to promote the advantages of mixed education and lots of single sex schools became co-educational.
Opponents of this issue, argue, with a single sex school in mind, the uniform and name would have to change. In a mixed school, you can argue on the grounds of equality that girls should be able to wear trousers, so the skirts would have to go. In a single sex schoolgirls don't feel the need to wear make up or dress to impress because there are no boys. Children...
