The Problems of Overconfidence
Summary: This following is a personal essay dealing with the problem of overconfidence.
I have always enjoyed playing tennis. When I first started playing in ninth grade it was mainly just for fun. There was no pressure on me, because I had just started playing, so I wasn't supposed to be good. I would always lose, but that was ok, because it was a learning experience. I enjoyed being the "underdog", because everyone loves the underdog, and when I did win it was a big deal. As the years progressed though, I started getting better and better. The better I got, the more times I won. The more I won, the more arrogant I became.
My junior year I had the high expectations of winning Districts in doubles. My partner and I had been undefeated during the season, so we were the number one seed in the District. We were extremely confident in the fact that we were by far the...
