Culture in Africa
Summary: Essay discusses various short stories on African culture.
In all of the short stories read in the African unit, they all contained a degree of culture in them. Whether the story focused solely on African culture, or the story briefly introduced culture, all of the stories had culture in its' plots. Ranking the stories from least cultural to greatest cultural, the story with the least culture in it was "Loyalties" by Adewale Maja-pearce. From there, the stories succeeding each other follow respectively: "In the shadow of war", "The moment before the gun went off", "The Pig", and finally, "Marriage is a private affair."
Loyalties had the least culture in it because the story mainly focused on war. Adewale's main objective was to portray the irony of some Africans through a little boy.
