Emperor Hadrian: The Life and the Fame
Summary: An essay about the life and accomplishments of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.
Hadrian was born in Italica on the fifth day before the Kalends of February in the seventh consulship of Vepasian and the fifth of Titus. Once we consider the different calendars Hadrian's birth occurred on January 28, 76AD. His cousin was Emperor Trajan and his great-grandfather's grandfather the first senator in the family. When Hadrian reached the age of ten he left his home and was left in the care of Trajan, then a Praetorian Guard. While staying with Trajan he delved deeply into heavy Greek studies. Once he reached the age of fifteen he was sent to serve in the military in his home province of Picenum. Because of his great interest in hunting he was criticized and Trajan recalled him to Rome.
