To Sacrifice or Not to Sacrifice Liberty

One might argue that the Constitution is the vaguest set of guidelines ever written. The indistinct nature of the Bill of Rights has resulted in repeated disputes over the liberties to which Americans are universally entitled. Yet in times of national crisis, the battle isn't over "which liberties," but is instead over two whom they are entitled.
Citizens advocate the policies and safeguards of most benefit to them. While in most cases this translates into support of the Bill of Rights, in times of national emergency, security is often prioritized over liberty.
Such is commonly the case because the majority is threatened by the minority. Denial of minority rights in exchange for majority security is popularly supported--not because citizens believe that it is moral or guided by the Constitution--but because it is of benefit to them.
