"Death of a Naturalist"
In Seamus Heaney's poem the transition from innocent to experience is explored. Set in the speaker's memories this poem effectively looks back on his childhood to determine what led to that transition. So therefore not the transition of innocence to experience is examined but also what effect the past has on the future. Maybe the speaker needs to determine the truth before he can truly understand his place in life.
The title immediately suggests not only a death of a naturalist but also the death of many naturalists suggesting it is a common occurrence and this is one of many deaths. Maybe not the literal death but the sudden lack of interest in nature. This lack of interest maybe leads to the death as we are dependent on nature and must take an interest in it.
